Jungle Patrol Treks

'During the Kokoda campaign jungle patrols comprised small groups of soldiers whose mission was to gather intelligence on the enemy. Recce patrols used camoflage and stealth to observe and report on enemy movements - their mission was 'to see and not be seen'. Fighting patrols were stronger with a dozen well-armed soldiers who probed enemy defences to assess the strengths of their positions.'

Adventure Kokoda Jungle Patrols

Kokoda Patrols are dedicated to the Jungle Patrol men who carried out these missions - they are led by expert Niugini Patrol Leaders trained by Major Chad Sherrin MM and Charlie Lynn. Our patrols follow the original wartime trail as opposed to the more popular 'eco-tourist' track due to our focus on the historical significance of the Kokoda campaign.

Kokoda Patrols follow the footsteps of the heroic 39th Militia Battalion as they trekked across the formidable Owen Stanley Ranges to confront the invading Japanese army at Kokoda. Our patrols are limited to 15 trekkers per group .

Our Niugini Patrol Leaders and Carriers are sons of the famous 'fuzzy-wuzzy angels' from local villages along the Trail. You will be greeted with smiles, sing-sings and offerings as they introduce you to their 'wan-toks' in their local villages.

You will be provided with a personal Trek Guide and Diary written by Major Charlie Lynn - it is a comprehensive booklet with information on the culture of the Koiari and Orokaiva people who live along the Trail; descriptions and maps of the Kokoda campaign; and detailed geogrpahical details of the track.

We provide individual mosquito-proof tents, backpacks, daypacks, sleeping bags and mats as part of our trek package. This is acknowledged as the most economical and best value option for trekking Kokoda.

Personal Carriers (grandsons of the famous 'fuzzy-wuzzy angels') are available to carry your backpack for you. This is a recommended option if you are not an experienced backpacker. The cost for a personal Niugini carrier is $530.
